April is NaPoWriMo!
Apr 1st, 2010 by Entropy

Just when you felt safe picking up your pen again after NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) National Poetry Writing Month is upon us. Now that my writer’s cramps have finally lifted and I can once again feel my fingertips, it’s time to get furiously writing poems at a rate of one per day for the month of April. Thank heavens it only hath thirty days! (Wondering why they couldn’t have done it in February?!)

More info here NoPoWriMo

So here goes with my first contribution:

Writing at Dawn

If I am to write each day at dawn, I must
Read the news written in dew across the lawn,
Hear the first brave chirps that begin the chorus,
Drink in the new green buds on the ash.
Tiptoe in between fresh shoots breaching earth,
Screaming daffodil borders and
Quivering pots of timid primulas.
But I know that early April’s chill will keep me
Bundled indoors,
Watching the light,
Dripping down the walls.

If I am to write each day at dawn I must
Read laundry debris across the bedroom floor,
Hear the muffled snores of my small moons,
Drink in bitter sips of coffee with no milk.
Tiptoe in between scattered cat litter,
Yesterday’s breadcrumbs and
Red bills on the doormat.
So I know that early April’s chill will keep me
Huddled inside,
Watching the light,
Dripping down the walls.
